Serpentine

Country of Origin
China

This stone isn't so well known, but it can be very interesting and colorful for some animal carvings. Serpentine rock can be apple-green to black and is often mottled with light and dark colored areas. A yellowish-green variety of serpentine called Bowenite, which can resemble Jadeite, is found in China. Its surfaces often have a shiny or wax-like appearance. It is called Serpentine because it often resembles the skin of certain snakes.
