The Shiva Lingams that we currently have range in size and weight from an inch to over 130 pounds. We also have the smaller ones of course, made into bracelets, necklaces and pendants. Shiva Lingams are sacred stones from the mighty Narmada River, a branch of the Ganges River. This river rumbles high in the mountains of Mandhata, one of the seven holy sites of India. Shiva Lingams represent the power of Lord Shiva, the Supreme God. The Narmada River and its surrounding areas are the only places on the earth where the Shiva Lingam stones are found and transformed into the spiritual oval shapes. These beautiful, powerful stones are uniquely and naturally created from meteorites, crystalline quartz, basalt, agate and other beautiful minerals. Each stone acquires its own distinctive “markings” as they are being formed. It takes millions of years of heat and pressure to create this dense stone.
The story was first told that they acquire that natural “oval” shape by working their way up through the earth’s crust to the surface of the river and being tumbled and spun, by the river’s currents. The stones were “finished” by some carving. They were then prepared, polished and waxed by specially selected women that lived in nearby villages.
Shiva Lingams are placed in temples, shrines and homes all over the world. Since they are the densest stones on the earth, they emanate a lofty vibration that purifies homes and temples. To many people, they hold sacred powers and qualities. In some countries, it is considered an honor just to be in their presence. Special ceremonies are performed using Shiva Lingams. Possessing one of these stones is said to bring balance and harmony, because it represents both the male energy of knowledge and the female energy of wisdom.
